Abraham Daily Quote – 02/28/2010

I just thought this one totally rocked today and I wanted to share-

“Do you have to change your vibration on a particular subject in order to let it in?” No, you don’t. You could pet your pet and let it in. You could sit with your feet dangling in the bay, and let it in. If it is a subject that you often think of in an attitude of resistance, it is really worthwhile reaching for some thoughts that feel better. You could launch an intention and never think about it again, and the Universe would yield it to you. You don’t have to clean up your vibration relative to anything, if you can just not think about it any more. That’s why we teach meditation. It’s easier to teach you to have no thought than to have pure positive thought. When you quiet your mind you stop thought; when you stop thought you stop resistance; when you stop resistance–then you are in a state of allowing.

Ginastica Natural

I’ve been looking for exercises that are specifically geared toward enhancing my BJJ here lately. My only other exercise outside of BJJ currently besides hiking is Turbulence Training which I enjoy immensely, but I’d like to get back to a more Hatha Yoga-ish, body weight approach. Although Craig Ballantyne (TT creator) has created body weight exercises I want more movements that are relevant to BJJ and a flowing hatha yoga.

Well lucky me, a fellow blogger provided some insights to his personal BJJ practice and I was thus introduced to Ginastica Natural. The inventor is a BJJ practitioner himself. Check out the following vid:

Well, that was enough to grab my interest so I ordered the DVD Ginastica Natural for Fighters yesterday.  I’m excited to see where this avenue takes me.

The Problem With Medical Scrubs

As Featured On EzineArticles

Medical scrubs have been around for decades, and although styles have changed there is still one thing that scrubs never have enough of. What is it you ask? The answer is simple. Medical scrubs have never been made with enough useful pockets.

Ask any medical professional what the phrase ‘useful pockets’ means to them and opinions will vary somewhat due to their particular job function. The most common complaints regarding medical scrub pockets are they are never very deep, typically have no way to secure items from falling out, and since scrubs have so few they cannot keep items separated.

So what do doctors, nurses, and technicians do to compensate for the lack of pockets in their uniforms? The most common solution has been to wear a lab coat. Most lab coats have one or more pockets, but rarely are they very useful. Most will agree that the pockets in lab coats are usually not large enough to carry many items. And because of this limited design, things fall out easily when bending over or moving about. Another drawback to wearing a lab coat is that with long sleeves, the wearer can quickly become overheated and uncomfortable.

Other options have been fanny packs and cargo pants. Fanny packs can be useful but are limited on size, can inhibit movement, and do not look professional. Cargo pants can be light weight and comfortable, and there are some medical scrub brands that have begun incorporating this style into their line. Still, the pockets in cargo pants can at most only hold a few odds and ends.

For those who need multiple pockets, are constantly on the move, and want to maintain a professional look there is a new solution available from http://www.IzzaB.com called the Med Vest. The Med Vest is a light weight, convenient solution specifically created to address the need for more useful pockets that is not being met by conventional medical uniforms.

“‘make” is not recognized as an internal or external command

Even though I’ve upgraded to Qt v4.6.1 when I try and evoke ‘make’ I get “‘make” is not recognized as an internal or external command.  I added to my path the [root]:\Qt\2010.01\qt\bin directory but make.exe wasn’t in there.  (My install directory being [system root]:\Qt)

Well, for Windows I found it in the  [root]:\Qt\2010.01\mingw\bin directory.  The make executable is actually mingw32-make.exe in this directory.  Add this to your Path and use mingw32-make and you should be good to go.

Gonna try out a Padilla

I gave Padilla & Sons a call today to ask a couple questions. I also noticed they have a Light Weight Competition Kimono for the same price as the Gold weave and I found it mighty enticing.

I believe it was Betty that I spoke with. She answered all my questions to my satisfaction, and made the suggestion that I go with an A4 instead of an A3. I’m 6’1″ and 206 lbs down from 215 lbs after 3 weeks of calorie observation. My goal weight is 190 lbs by end of April.  Since I’m right in the middle of the A3 and A4 she suggested to go big for starters and if I tried it on and didn’t dig it I could exchange it for the A3.  She made it very clear that since these are cotton they will shrink some from washing, but they have detailed instructions on how to deal with this.

Order the A4 white light weight competition today.  Totally stoked!  Gi with shipping is $104 .

One Gi is never enough

So I’m back in the swing of things, hitting 2-4 BJJ classes now a week (hopefully more soon) and I’ve come to realize that one Gi is definitely not enough. My Koral MKM Gi totally rocks, but washing it everyday and letting it hang dry is not working out very well, and there is no chance my Gi will ever be placed in a dryer (I get nightmares just thinking about it). I’m going a bit soggy to class now which ain’t cool.

I’m thinking I’m gonna try something I haven’t seen much of but have read only good reviews. Padilla and Sons has a Gold Weave that looks mighty enticing, and at $95 dollars looks to be quite a deal. Their customer service is claimed to be top notch so I’m going to give them a call here today and see what they recommend as for size and see how it goes.

The difference a place can make

After over a month off from BJJ I decided to check out a new place that is a lot closer to me called ‘West Side Jiu-Jitsu’ owned and operated by Mark Johnson. I’d gone to see him at his previous location about a year ago but hadn’t stayed to watch a class. Mark seemed cool, and it looked like a good group of guys, so I decided to take the first time free class.

After about 45 min of drilling we the rolled for 15 and then called it good. I then hit an hour drill class afterward to work technique. Friendly group, all the guys I worked with were patient and had fun. Typical attributes of a good gym in my opinion.

But the real difference I saw was in how I felt after I left. Physically I felt like I’d had a good workout, a little sore is all. But emotionally I felt happy, and most importantly I had fun!

So what was the difference? My previous BJJ experience had top notch instructors and a dedicated group of helpful, passionate students. I got worked hard there and saw obvious improvement in my technique. But the kicker is I never felt really comfortable. And because of that, I didn’t feel safe. Being a student of the Law of Attraction I believe that it was because of this feeling that I was injured repeatedly. Fortunately I decided to follow my feelings, and now I’m in a place that I resonate with.
